Eight years building personal brands for people who already had a business.
I'm Kyler Obata. I run Way Better Studios out of Las Vegas.
I've worked on personal brands in real estate, fitness, hospitality, combat sports, and major consumer brands. Different industries, same pattern every time. The personal brand was never the product. It was the distribution channel.
The people who understood that made money. The people who treated content like a highlight reel stayed stuck.
Where I learned it.
- 2018
- Interned on the UFC social media team. I got to see how a billion dollar organisation structures content. Not as a creative exercise, as a revenue operation. Everything was engineered to drive a specific outcome.
- 2019
- Worked with Jaysee Lopez at Urban Necessities, one of the biggest sneaker consignment shops in the world at the time. Watched a personal brand drive millions in revenue, and learned that content, marketing, and collaborations are not separate activities. They are parts of one system.
- 2020
- Worked with Ryan Pineda through the lockdown, building his personal brand and contributing to content that drove millions in coaching sales and traffic across his businesses.
- 2021
- Monetised Robert Drysdale's YouTube channel inside 90 days.
- 2022
- Started Way Better Studios as a podcast and short form production house. Clients came in, filmed, posted. Most of them could not grow and churn was high. The editing was fine. The problem was that nothing connected their content to their business.
- 2024
- Rebuilt it as a personal branding agency. Scripting, filming, editing, strategy, all under one roof, on a capped roster.
Posting without a system is just noise.
Consistency without a system means you are consistently wasting your time.
Most personal brand advice online is built for creators, not business owners. You follow it, you post, you stay consistent, and nothing happens. That is not a you problem. It is a system problem.
If you have a real offer, you already have the hard part. Most people online are still trying to work out what to sell. You know. What is missing is the system that turns your expertise into content pointing at that offer.
Social media is not a place to build a following. It is a place where people gather to solve a problem. The job is to be the one solving it.
What that looks like.
One client went from 1,000 followers to over 24,000. A single video hit 1.3 million views. The view count is not the interesting part. That video drove more than 1,000 qualified leads into his business.
That was not luck and it was not charisma. It was a framework, built before anything was filmed. The viral video was a byproduct.
Two ways in.
Learn the system and build it yourself, or work with someone who already has it built. Both start in the same place, working out what you stand for and who it is for, before a camera is switched on.
